Breakdown for EVs is a relatively new service that has seen a fair amount of innovation. Did you know that you can't simply tow and EV like you could with a good old ICE vehicle? Well now you do. But how do solutions compare? and why is Recharge Rescue different?
“I’ve got AA cover with my new EV” – the AA will send a recovery truck to pick you up and move you to a public charger, or they will remove your rear wheels and put on freewheeling hubs so that they can tow you behind a patrol van.
“What’s wrong with that?” – if they decide to deploy the recovery truck option, it must be a flatbed truck to move the majority EV’s (all four wheels of the vehicle off the ground to prevent damage to the electric motors). They will often use a local recovery contractor, and that operator will usually have a small fleet of trucks, one of which will be suitable. If that one truck is on another job in the wrong direction the wait time will be many hours. The other question is do you want you, and your fellow passengers, then having to travel in a recovery vehicle for several miles
Option 2, removing both rear wheels, is not ideal on the roadside, particularly with a larger EV such as a Tesla Model X, and creates something of a spectacle of the situation. You are then restricted to a maximum of two passengers in the patrol van.
Recharge Rescue is the only product available solely for EV’s. Our solution is simple, call us and up to 90 minutes later one of our specialist cans will appear and give you a boost. Our vans have a minimum charging power of 7.2kW, and our drivers have a wealth of experience with the ever-increasing range of electric vehicles on UK roads. So we'll give you a boost and direct you to the nearest rapid charging unit where required!

“is there an excess payable on making a claim?” – No!

Footnote – the RAC have 3.2kW chargers in some of their roadside patrols, and some have “four wheels up” trailers. Due to their low power their chargers are not able to boost charge the latest EV’s, and the trailers present the same issues as the AA freewheeling hub option
